Egry, József

1883-1951

Egry was a painter, an important representative of Hungarian modernism, active in the first half of the 20th century. He is famous for his landscapes that he painted mainly of Lake Balaton. He had a special dreamlike style, with which he was able to create intensive atmospheric effects. His focus was on the studying and reproducing the effects of light.

He designed a few posters for cultural events in the 1910’s. His poster style seems to be close to the drawing style of the avant-garde artist group Nyolcak (The Eight).                                                                                                                                                    .
