|Kaesz, Gyula||Tram poster (cca. 17 x 24 cm)|
|1930||Fine, light creasing.|
Modernist tram poster by Gyula Kaesz. He was an architect and professor who designed very few posters in his life. This rare piece is one of those.
The poster advertising an optics brand, Chmura bears the classic constructivist elements. The colours of it a red, white and black and it is a photomontage composition. The different elements of the design are arranged in simple, geometric blocks that grabs the attention of the viewer. The text is humorous and has a double meaning in Hungarian. It means: it is good to see, referring to the ability that is given by the glasses to those who wear it, and it also means that the brand produced fashionable and quality pieces. Humour often appeared on the constructivist posters. Another quality of the style is the changin colour and style of the letter in front of different backgrounds, thus leading the eye of the audience.
