Voit Ervin

1882 - 1932

Ervin Voit was a painter and graphic artist. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts at the turn of the century.

From 1906 he taught costume design at the Industrial Design School. He was Béla Bartók’s cousin and close friend of whom he painted a portrait once. His most famous poster design was made for the Budapest Zoo: it displays penguins in front of Károly Kós’ folk art inspired buildings of the zoo, in a very modern, flat-like, decorative Art Nouveau manner. In 1912 he won a tender of an anti-alcoholism campaign. His style was close to Mihály Biró’s of the 1910s.                                                                                                                                               .
