Moldován Béla

1885 - 1967

Bela Moldovan was a painter, illustrator, graphic artist and poster designer.

He was also known as Béla Zombori Moldován, after his hometown. He studied art at the beginning of the 20th century in Budapest. In 1905 he spent some time at the Nagybánya art workshop. Later, he exhibited some of his paintings, and besides, he was making illustrations for newspapers and books.

He designed patriotic posters during the First World War. His poster for the collection of textiles is a drawn composition with impressive symbols. Other works by him are rather painting-like, they show atmospheric effects, and theatrical lighting (such as the posters of the airplane- and of the war photography exhibitions). He also created one agressive propaganda poster for the war loan.                                                                                                                             .
