Description:

Travel with your television to Mexico - 1968 Summer Olympics is an original vintage Hungarian commercial poster from 1968 by So-Ky.

Hungarian poster for the TV broadcast of the Olympic Games of Mexico City in 1968.

The design is a funny piece by So-Ky. So-Ky was the married artist couple of László Sós and Éva Kemény who have been working together. They designed numerous prominent cultural, commercial and propaganda posters as well. Their posters represent the typical visual culture of the 1960s, illustrating a style known today as “retro” or socialist modernism that defined the furniture, architecture, and graphic design of the period.

This piece is a great example of their commercial designs. Its central element is television which has the typical shape of the first editions. The humorous character of the design is given by the fact that the tv is travelling on the top of a little ship depicted beneath in a fine drawing style. The highlighted waves contribute to this funny advanture.
