Description:

Csemiczky was one of the most important modernist graphic artists between the 1930s and the 1950s. He followed a geometric, constructivist poster style. Csemiczky was frequently working for companies of the electronic equipment industry, for example Standard, or Tungsram.  He was also very intrigued by the possibilities of modern technique, especially the radio.

This poster advertises Tungsram light bulbs for automobiles. The poster was designed most probably in the 1940s. The design is very impressive, showing great quality and performance of the product. The driver in the car is able to see the dangerous horseshoe left on the road, thanks to the strong light provided by the Tungsram light bulbs. The diagonal late Art Deco composition is highly decorative. As most of the posters of the artist, this poster is also characterised by the use of strong colors, flat shapes and modern typography. The name of the brand appears in the lower right corner with the images of a variety of lightbulbs as well. The strong contrast and the use of only a few elements contribute to the mature and decorative design.

This poster is a truely great piece of Csemiczky.
