Ékes Árpád

1894 -

Arpad Ekes was poster artist specialized in movie poster design, active during the 1910s and 1920s.

He had a very unique style that makes his movie posters instantly identifiable. His compositions are based on soft tones of black crayon lithography on white background, with very few colors. Large scale faces of the actors and surrealistic details appear on his posters. He usually combined two or more scenes and made a montage-like composition of them.

He also designed colorful posters together with Lajos Csabai-Ékes during the First World War.                                                                                                                                                 .
