Honti Nándor

1878 - 1935

Nándor Honti was a painter, graphic designer and illustrator, mainly active during the 1910’s and 1920’s.

He studied in Munich under Simon Hollósy, in Paris at the Julian Academt; then spent some time in New York and Philadelphia. After returning home he became the caricaturist of the journal called Újság (Newspaper). He deisgned posters, most of which are examples of the fashionable Art Nouveau style of the age. He was working on poster designs for commercial purposes, periodicals and movies. He liked to use strong color contrasts, such as black backgrounds and light colors.  He was still working during the First World War, but after it he emigrated to New York. There he became an illustrator at the Hearst company.                                                                                                                                           .
