Sóti Klára

1930 -

Applied graphic artist, illustrator, painter and designer. She studied from Gyula Hincz, and finished her studies in the mid-1950s.

Between 1954 and 1959 she was a costume and marionette designer at the National Puppet Theatre. Between 1956 and 1988 she was working as an art director for a children’s magazine, called Dörmögő Dömötör, after a bear, which was a leading character of the tales.

During her career Sóti was active in many areas. She made posters, illustrations, postcards, logos and slide films. Many of her posters were designed for children’s movies; most of her illustrations were made for storybooks. Her style was inspired by children’s drawings; her compositions are always colourful, charming and harmonic. The characters appear to be cartoon characters. She was strongly influenced by folk art.                                                                                                                                       .
