Beautiful small modernist poster, which was most probably designed by György Nemes, one of the most important students of Bortnyik, at Muhely, the Bauhaus of Budapest.
This design was created for a Ganz pump.The company’s predecessor was founded in 1844 by Abraham Ganz, a master foundry man of Swiss origin.The key to the success of the Ganz companies was intuition based on enormous professional knowledge foreseeing future demand, initiative and enterprise. The founder’s invention, hard-casting, ensured a great competition advantage and enabled the manufacturing of railway wheels highly resistant to abrasion, which founded the company’s future. Following the death of Ganz, in 1867 András Mechwart took over the management of the factory, who invented the hard-cast fluted steel mill cylinder and the roller mill, which revolutionized the world’s mill industry from Australia to North America. Under Mechwart’s leadership Ganz became one of the largest machine factories in Europe, where agricultural machines, complete mills, steam engines, railway wagons, ships, hydro-machinery and many other products were manufactured. The design of the poster bears the typical moderninst elements: the red and black colours arranged in a clear, geometric way, the simple, yet very decorative typography and the photos. The text next to the man sitting in a thinking position: 'why would I buy a large and heavy pump, when there is one with half of its weight with which I can get twice as much water'.
