Description:

Vienna Fair 1939 Austrian and German art deco event advertising poster designed by Emmerich Weninger.

In 1921, in the wake of World War I, the first Vienna Trade Fair was held, as trading and the movement of goods between the Central European nations, many of whom had been devastated during the conflict, was considered of vital interest to all. Spread out all over the city, the Fair quickly became a center of trade, a meeting place for many diverse cultures, and a central part of life in Vienna. The bold and dynamic Austrian poster offered here reflects the realities of life in Vienna in 1939, one year after the German occupation and annexation of Austria in the Anschluss of 1938.

This stark imaged vintage 1939 Austrian Art Deco advertising poster for the Vienna International Fair is a rare and original piece of poster history.
