Description:

Poster for the Budapest Vehicular Highway Code Competition held in 1969.

It was designed by István Czeglédi who atrted to work in the 1930s. In the 1950s he mostly designed posters in the typical Sopcialist Realist manner but by the 1960s he developed his own modern style. This work is from that period. He often used red, black and white colours which is also visible on this poster. The composition is very decorative. In the middle there is a 'local access only' sign, which is the most dominant part of the pictur. Inside it there is the name and date of the event. Around it there are a a lot of traffic signs and in a geometric patter, different cars are heading towards the middle. The whole composition would be completely symmetric if it wasn't for the random-like placement of the smaller traffic signs. This gives the spice of  the whole design.
