Description:
Népfront (People's Front) was a political party formed in 1949, the successor of the Hungarian National Independence Front. The president of the party was Mátyás Rákosi, the later de facto ruler of communist Hungary. People's Front was actually a forced alliance of several smaller political parties that lost their power as a result of the 'salami tactics' of the communist politics. In Hungary, following the World War II, despite the Soviet occupation, the socialist party could not win legally, therefore they applied a method - the so called 'salami tactics' - that gradually eliminated their opponents. Hence, even though People's Front included politicains with various backgrounds, it was dominated by the communists. Moreover, on the 1949 elections no other party was present on the votig ballots, thus finally the communists won the elections
The five year plan was a system in socialist Hungary that determined an economical improvement by reforming the economy based on the Soviet model. The first five year plan was apparently a three year plan that started in 1947. This poster refers to the first real five year plan that was accepted in 1949. These plans were all made with the goal of economic growth but it's needless to say that the forced industrialization and the actions related to agriculture caused more harm to the economy than good.
