Description:
Poster for the cosmetic brand Gardenia. In the times of Socialism, factories were owned by the state and production was controlled by it. In the 1960s six companies responsible for the production of cosmetic goods existed. Gardenia was produced by the company established in 1831 by József Hutter, the father of the famous Hutter soap. The same company - which today is called Caola-Alfa Ltd. - produced brands like Ovenall, Flóra, Schmoll, Opera etc. Gardenia did not only have cologne but other toiletries as well. The brand appeared on other posters with similar themes, for example on a tram poster for the cooperative store.
The design of this piece is very elegant. The text says: the scent of spring, Gardenia cologne water. It is available in the perfumery. A cherry-blossom on the left side of the composition give the atmosphere of spring. The clear design of the bottle and the elegant typography let us suggest that Gardenia was a quality brand.
