Tram poster (cca. 24 x 17 cm)
Paper, offset lithography.
Lovely commercial design for the State Insurance Company from the beginning of the 1960s designed by Laszlo Kaldor.
The tram poster was created by László Káldor, an important graphic artist and interior designer active between 1935 and 1960. In the end of the 1950s, Káldor’s posters became playful and cheerful by employing funny scenes with cartoon-like figures. This piece is a good example for that: a funny figure can be seen in a boat, wearing a sun hat, fishing calmly with the foot up and with a smoking pipe in the mouth. Even a fish is depicted looking out of the water to the figure. The name of the State Insurance Company is written on the side of the boat.
The concentrated message together with the humorous character and the cartoon-like style makes this design a great poster.
